licensed practical nurse (LPN): Also known as licensed vocational nurses (LVN) in California and Texas, LPNs have more training than Certified Nursing Assistants but less training than Registered Nurses.

marketing: The ongoing process of planning and executing the marketing mix (product, price, place, promotion) of products, services or ideas to create exchange between individuals and organizations.

mediation: A form of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) that aims to assist two or more disputants in reaching an agreement.

midwifery: Health care providers who are experts in women’s health care, including giving prenatal care to expecting mothers.

nurse anesthetist (AE): A Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Nurse who has acquired additional education and training to administer anesthesia.

nurse practitioner (NP): A registered nurse who has completed specific advanced nursing education, usually a master’s degree, and training in the diagnosis and management of common, as well as complex, medical conditions.

nursing informatics: A specialty of health care informatics that deals with the support of nursing by information systems in delivery, documentation, administration and evaluation of patient care and disease prevention.
