A Degree in Computer Software Engineering

Software engineers are responsible for a variety of tasks, work for many different kinds of employers and can:

  • design software
  • write code for software applications.
As a result, they know lots of computer languages, such as JavaScript and C++.
 
Software engineers can work as software developers and network creators for large companies. They can also work for themselves and offer their design services on a consulting basis. A high-level software engineer may become a software development director, engineering software for major companies such as Apple or Microsoft. These engineers may have higher degrees in computer science and operations, as well as many years of experience in engineering software.
 
If you're interested in becoming a software engineer, a traditional four-year program may offer the proper, intensive education for you. Many software engineers begin with a four-year degree, then update their skills as technology advances.
 
For those who don't have the time or money to go to school full-time, online schools provide affordable programs you can do on your own time. Depending on the training and career you want, this kind of degree can cost many thousands of dollars. Online training generally costs much less. Similarly, the courses and tuition associated with most online degree programs fit a working person's schedule.

Software Engineering Jobs

Due to an increased spending in the defense industry and government interest in security, software engineers with systems security backgrounds stand a very good chance of landing an extremely high-paying position in the private or public sector. In the United States, the average, intermediate-level software engineer without a security specialization still makes roughly $65,000 a year. Senior software engineers, developers and programmers earn close to $90,000 a year.
